UNE Smart Farm

What is your main business activity?

Commercial fat lamb production, scientific research, education and outreach.

How has the NBN impacted on the way you do business?

High speed internet is crucial for streaming, to the outside world, the many live data feeds from sensors networks on the farm. Data from our livestock tracking system, soil moisture networks, satellite image-based pasture monitoring tools, quad bike sensors etc are all used for education packages, as well as to support research and development activities of university staff as well as collaborators anywhere in the world.

We also run video conference links between the farm and our external stakeholders, including students and members of the community.

In what way has the NBN impacted on your work/life balance?

Faster speeds means more efficient use of time.

Do you see any opportunities into the future for your business as a result of the NBN?

Definitely - connecting our farms to the outside world using high speed internet is just one side of the equation. Our users and audiences must also be connected to derive maximum benefit from what we seek to offer them.

Are there any other ways we can help grow your business and to build Armidale's future Digital Economy?

We are committed to creating and offering effective outreach activities to people from all backgrounds and of all ages. From time to time we may require support in communicating our activities to the outside world.
